Holiday adventures part 3 – Lisbon
On Christmas Day we headed to Lisbon, Portugal (the capital and largest city). By the time we finished the 6-hour drive, I was feeling much better, the sun was shining, and the weather was delightful (in the 60s, the warmest we got on the whole trip). We enjoyed walking around for the rest of that day and the next. We’ve both spent time in Brazil, so we can speak a bit of Portuguese.
Lisbon has a huge monastery.
There is a lookout tower on the harbor that gives a good view of the city.
A funicular took us up to another vantage point for a view of the city.
We had the most fun just walking around the different neighborhoods. Many of the narrow streets were too small for cars. Most houses had laundry hanging out of windows and balconies, and many homes had bird cages with tweety birds hanging outside.
The Banco Espirito Santo (Bank of the Holy Spirit) looks like a good place to keep money.
We loved Lisbon and lingered longer than we had planned. But, late on the second day, we got back in the car, tucked away our Portuguese and pulled out the Spanish language again, and headed to Seville, Spain.
Lisbon has a huge monastery.
